Beaver Relocation & Wishpush Working Group
Beavers are an essential component of healthy ecosystems, yet beaver activity can create significant problems for some landowners.
MARS is part of the Wishpush Working Group (WWG), which recognizes this duality. The mission of the Wishpush Working Group is to support and promote sustainable populations of beavers for a host of ecological benefits. The effort is a collaboration of multiple organizations working in the Columbia tributaries south of Mt. Adams.
WWG seeks to help landowners with strategies to coexist with beavers if possible or relocate beavers if coexistence is not feasible. Coexistence strategies include tools to protect trees, prevent damage to culverts & roads, and flood mitigation. Relocation involves live trapping nuisance beavers and moving them to approved areas where beaver activity is beneficial and restorative to the landscape.
Trapping and relocation is conducted under the WA Department of Fish and Wildlife Beaver Relocation Program and MARS has a WDFW-permitted beaver relocator on staff. Consultation and relocation are provided at no cost.
