Inaugural “Learn and Burn”, May 18-20, 2023, for those interested in prescribed fire!

Join MARS for a 3-day introductory workshop all about prescribed fire May 18-20, 2023. Whether you already have burning experience and want to sharpen your skills, are hoping to burn your property but don’t know where to start, or are just curious about this so-called “good fire,” this event is for you. No qualifications, experience, or equipment required. The workshop, hosted in Glenwood, will include two days of guest speakers and skills practice, followed by a burn day on the Mt. Adams Community Forest (weather permitting!). You’ll learn about fire history in the Mt. Adams region, ecological benefits of prescribed fire, burn plan writing, permitting, smoke management, liability, funding opportunities for small forest landowners, and more. A $25 donation is suggested for individual participants, and organizations/businesses are asked to contribute $100 to send up to 4 participants.
